I'm just scratching the surface of Sermon Browser and I like what I've found.  It is very useful for our church and for getting out the word of God.

I've got a question and I didn't find the answer in the FAQ page, so sorry if I missed something.

We have a team of volunteers who record the sermon and then upload it to our old church web site using a special form and password just for doing sermon uploads.  We'd like to have the same team do the upload and add new sermons using Sermon Browser, but we really don't want to have volunteers (including our teenager volunteers) using our WordPress admin user id and password to upload new sermons.  I've noticed some other plugins allow restricting access or features based on the WordPress role (i.e. subscriber, author, etc.).

Does Sermon Browser currently provide those kinds of access levels or is that coming in the new version?  Is there a separate "uploader" php form I'm not aware of?

thanks for the awesome plug in and I'm looking forward to the new version!

This should go in the support forum, rather than the SB2.0 release forum.  But the easiest way to accomplish this is give them the "Editor" role.  This role has access to main SermonBrowser components.  Note that this will also give them the ability to add/edit all posts and pages.

You can also create a new role with the Capability Manager plugin, giving them just the "read", "publish_posts", "upload_files" and "manage_categories" capabilities, which should also work to just give them access to SermonBrowser, without the options link.  Haven't tested this... but it should work in theory.

You'll be able to edit the feed more easily to add some of the information that iTunes allows, and it will support images. You'll also be able to specify how many items will show in the feed.

We've also had allot of trouble with our iTunes feed...many times messages won't download and then won't stream.  Others who access just the RSS feed don't have any trouble, it's just iPhones and iPads.  Hopefully the adjustments will help with this.

Hi Mark!

Thank you for all the work you are putting in this particular plugin. It has been and will be a huge blessing for churches all around the globe!

To all people visiting this blog, waiting for news about the plugin, I recommend two things:

1) Donate to the cause Mark is recommending! (I just sent 10$, maybe no much but more than nothing)

2) Pray for this work! All Christians know that all tasks and things need prayer support. If we are so desperate for this plugin to come out, let's support Mark in prayer. The best we can do for him in this time consuming work.

Again, THANK YOU Mark for what you are doing. God bless you!

I just want to say good work! Can't wait for the next version. I've just started using your old one at it's quite buggy for me so will be keen to play with this new one. :) . Let me know if you want a hand with anything at all. I'd be happy to help.

Don't know if my reply got submitted so I am submitting it again.

Is there an expected release date for version 2.0 to be compatible with 3.4.2?  Or is it already?

We are having an issue with a File not found in our Flash player. The download button seems to be working fine, but not the on page player? Is this a issue with our version of Wordpress? or is this something else? Is there a patch or something we can do to get the player to work again?

Our website and an example of the issue is here: http://thejourneychurch.com/te.....mon_id=186

Thanks,

Carlos

Carlos,

Sermon Browser version 0.45.4 (currently the latest available version) is compatible with WordPress 3.4.2, with the exception of the bug fix found at the following topic:

http://www.sermonbrowser.com/f.....e-sermons/

This has nothing to do with your File Not Found error on your flash player.  I'll try to help you work out that problem on the other topic that you posted to:

http://www.sermonbrowser.com/f.....t-found-8/

I was looking at the source code site and didn't see anything since October 5. We're really excited to roll this out on our site for the new year. I know Mark was hoping year-end. Is that still a possibility for at least a beta or release candidate? Thanks!

Any possibility of being able to beta-test this plug-in? I have always had problems with the earlier version (missing preacher names and other back-end problems) but really think a lot of this plug-in and what it can do.

Unfortunately, it would seem Mark wanted to whet our appetite a bit too soon.  Mark- Any update on 2.0?  I have three churches waiting on me to get them some better sermon management.  I'd even be willing to pay for it.

I'd appreciate an update on this as well. Working on a new church website at the moment and the Sermons section currently uses Sermon Browser, would love to keep using it.

Can I ask some advice re. Sermon Browser?

I'm considering setting up my first site. It will be a church site, and must have the facility to download sermons.

I'm assuming that as a new site, I'll be building it in Wordpress 3.5 (only sites I have any other experience (and not much) are in Joomla)

What are my options? Sermon Manager or Sermon Browser?

Mark seems to have put a whole lot of work into Version 2.0 of Sermon Browser, but the absence of any recent news is disconcerting. I'd love to go down the Sermon Browser route.

1. He's in the UK

2. I think we have a similar approach to ministry and theology  (the guys posted on his demo would certainly suggest that)

I know it's only God who gives 100% cast-iron guarantees that he will finish what he starts, but I'd hate to see this go unfinished.

So - any advice please - I'd love to know what way to go on this one.

Thanks in anticipation for any help

Kind regards

ksr

(incidentally, it seems to be becoming a pattern that software updates run way behind schedule - as anyone who has been waiting for the update of EasyWorship knows!)

Hello-

I can only speak on SermonBrowser, as that's all I've used, but just wanted to note that I have the current version running successfully on two church websites with Wordpress 3.5 right now, and I'm building a third presently, which I plan to use SB on as well.

It is a tad concerning that we haven't received status updates on 2.0, but note that there is a community here that is very helpful (especially Ben Miller) if you run into problems.  And if you do see some glitches, chances are there is a fix somewhere on the forum for it already.

The main drawback in the current version for me is that it doesn't natively handle series graphics, but I get around that by putting the image in the description text (you can use html) for each sermon.

Thanks,

Thanks, Matt

Appreciate you taking the time to comment. I've also looked at the way you have it implemented on the Dodgeville UMC website.

Looks very much like what I would hope to achieve.

Thanks again

I am concerned that there has been no recent news about version 2. I am also concerned that the home page appears to be faulty for many weeks.

I know developments can take a longer time than expected, but I wonder if something has gone wrong and Mark Barnes isn't able to administer his website and forum, since he hasn't posted (as far as I can see) for quite some time and there hasn't been a news update about either a delay or anything else.

Since version 2 was scheduled for 5 December 2012 I wonder if anyone knows what the situation is, and if Mark is okay?

He appears to be ok, since he's still preaching at his church (http://www.bethel-clydach.co.u.....preacher=3).  This isn't the first time he's made an announcement and then disappeared for a bit.  I believe pastoral duties must get the best of him sometimes.

Mark Barnes, I just worked out a quick fix for a bug where the Books of the Bible were not translating correctly for translated installations.  You can read about it here:

Mark is undoubtedly working as fast as he can -- his description of version 2.0 is quite ambitious, different from the ground up with much better functionality. So, eager as I am for the update, I am content to patiently wait. However -- and this is up to Mark -- I would support a fund aimed at giving him some professional development help.

Mark,

Hey brother, I just want to encourage you in your efforts with Sermon Browser. You are having an impact on the Kingdom in a big way. So I wanted to take the time to offer up a prayer for you to our LORD.

Lord,

I thank you Father for men like Mark who serve the body diligently using their talents for Your glory. I pray LORD that You will bless his work with this project. I pray that You would allow him to complete this project and that he would not run into any major snags as he and his team develops this plugin. LORD, I pray that you would give him godly wisdom with regard to how he manages his time and energy towards completion of this project. And then LORD I would ask that you would show him the fruit of his labor and that his heart would smile knowing that he has contributed to bringing You glory through his diligence! And finally LORD I thank You for the work he has done and how it has blessed our ministry. I ask this in the matchless Name of our LORD and Savior Jesus! -Amen

Well brother, thank you for you work. If there is anything that I can do to be of assistance to you please don't hesitate to ask.

At Your Service In His Service,

-Nick Covanes

I've downloaded and installed SB2 onto a Wordpress 3.7.1 test site.  I've added some sermons.  How do I display them?  It's my understanding that is no longer used.

Also, is the "Files" feature functional?  all I get is a blank screen.

I love this program and will do whatever I can to help with the testing.
