Reducing Functionality

Hi,

I've just customised a little media page for my church (http://axischurch.org.au/media/) however I'd like to actually reduce the functionality slightly. I'd be happy with just a flat list of sermons... so I would like to remove the hyperlinks on both sermon titles AND preacher names. That way, it's just a simple page listing all sermons with either PLAY or DOWNLOAD options.

Can you provide instructions to modified the code in this way?

CM

CM,

You can do this by creating your own template tags in the dictionary.php file.

First, read this topic.  It contains a description of dictionary.php and some links to examples of custom template tags.

In your case, you might create tags in the sb_search_results_dictionary function called "sermon_title_no_link" and "preacher_no_link".  You can use the code from the "sermon_title" and "preacher_link" tags to start, and just remove the "a" and "/a" part of the code.  After you edit and save dictionary.php, you can use your new tags in your Sermon Browser template.

A couple of things to remember:

1. Any time you make changes to dictionary.php, you need to go to Sermons, Templates and hit the save button.  That will load your new template tag definitions into Sermon Browser.  Hitting the Save button on that screen is the only time that Sermon Browser reads the dictionary.php file.

2. If you make changes to any PHP file in Sermon Browser, you will lose your changes when you update Sermon Browser to a new version in the future.  Keep a copy of your changed files, so you can put your customizations back in after you update.

If you have any questions, let me know.  If you get something brilliant working, consider documenting your changes here on the forum, so others can benefit.

Hi Ben,

Your answer was super easy to understand, and I implemented the changes in under 10 minutes. Thanks so much!
