I am getting this error message when trying to add a sermon via the "Add Sermon" tab. I have uploaded the sermons via FTP, I select the message I want at the "Choose existing file" dropdown and press the "Select" button.

The next thing that happens is this error message.

I can add sermons via the Files tab. Select file, select "Create Sermon" under the Actions column.

So… any ideas what my problem is?

Al;

What is the error message and has this been resolved as of yet? you did not include the error message in your post. Did you use the default folder path for the install (/wp-uploads/sermons?) What are the folder permissions (read only, read/write, etc/). Please give us more information and we will see if we can get you all fixed up!!

Blessings :o)

My subject line is the error message. No, this has not been resolved.

I upload sermons via FTP. The folder permissions are for read/write/execute.

I use the same set up on another site and am able to create new sermons from the Add Sermons panel. This new site allows me to highlight the file, but then when I click "Select", I get this error message, whereas in my other site everything works properly.

Does that make sense?

Don;

Thanks for the clarification on the error. Your original post was a little confusing to me I guess, I'm sorry.

So you have two different sites, one that is not working correctly and another that is, is that correct? Could one assume that they are both on the same server? If so, are both sites configured exactly the same (same php.ini file settings, same .htaccess files, same locations of the files, etc.)

You say that the folder that you are putting the sermons in has read write execute permissions, which does not necessarily mean that are set properly. Who has read, write, execute permissions. Are you able to list the folders security settings in the following format (644, 655, 755, etc.) what about the files themselves, what are their permissions?

Could one also assume that when you are trying to add these sermons, that you (or whoever) is logged in with an admin account and not as an author or editor? Who are you hosting the site or sites with? If they have a knowledgebase have you searched the issue through the way they have their servers configured possibly? There is a setting (and I cannot put my finger on it at the moment (not enough coffee yet) but you can look through my other posts, but in the php.ini file, there is a setting about how it handles file access through php code. This may be it:

http://us3.php.net/manual/en/f……fopen.php or this one http://us3.php.net/manual/en/f…..-url-fopen

Hopefully this will get you a little closer or fixed all together. Please post your findings, and I will do what I can to help.

Blessings…

No problem, I have that effect on a lot of people!

So you have two different sites, one that is not working correctly and another that is, is that correct? Could one assume that they are both on the same server? If so, are both sites configured exactly the same (same php.ini file settings, same .htaccess files, same locations of the files, etc.)

No, two different servers. The working site is on a server provided by ix webhosting, I believe it is a windows based server. The site with the problem is provided by hostmonster, I think it is a Linux based server (I didn't set this one up). The working site is using an older version of Sermon Browser – I haven't upgraded because I don't want to lose my customizations (the subject of another post I made here which has not been answered). I'm not sure about the php.ini settings, but since they are different servers and all, I am sure there are some differences in the files. I am not sure it is that useful to compare the two sites, really. Maybe it was a red herring to bring up the working one at all!

You say that the folder that you are putting the sermons in has read write execute permissions, which does not necessarily mean that are set properly. Who has read, write, execute permissions. Are you able to list the folders security settings in the following format (644, 655, 755, etc.) what about the files themselves, what are their permissions?

I'm a little confused about that. I looked at the properties of the folder after you asked and discovered that the format was 777, basically all three categories, Owner, Group, World, have all permissions. That sort of worried me, so I changed the folder to 755, and each file is set at 644.

Could one also assume that when you are trying to add these sermons, that you (or whoever) is logged in with an admin account and not as an author or editor?

Yes, admin account

Who are you hosting the site or sites with? If they have a knowledgebase have you searched the issue through the way they have their servers configured possibly? Ok, thanks, I will read through these references and see what I can find out. I'll let you know.

Don;

The last person I just helped with a similar issue had found out the cause of this error (for them) was their database ran out of space. How many sermons do you currently have uploaded. Can you by chance please log into your admin area to see if your database file is too large. If so, you will need to get with your hosting provider (or at least I recommend it) to fix it by making a larger database and then migrating the old one over.

Have you also tried disabling all of your plugins except for sermonbrowser to see if the error goes away and possibly another plugin is causing the problem. Please check those two issues and let us know.

Blessings…

No, it's not that. Just started this site. We have maybe 15 sermons on it.

Disabled all other plugins, tried to use the Add Sermon section, still didn't work.

Don

I have what appears to be the exact same problem as you with the error message 'You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page' appearing after I try to add a previously uploaded sermon via the "Add Sermon" tab. This is after I moved our site to a new server with unlimited space.

My sermons are located in the folder /public_html/wp-content/uploads/sermons/ and I also have 777 set for all three categories.

I am by no means an expert but think the problem may be with the settings of the web host given we seem to have the same fault.

I will post back if I have any success.

Try adding a sermon by going to 'files' then under 'unlinked files' click 'create sermon'

This worked for me (although I admit we still have the original problem)

Hi Douglas,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, same problem. I have been going to files to create sermons. I am glad that method works. I still haven't been able to figure out what the issue is with the "Add Sermons" link.

BTW, I think you should change the permissions on your folder. You probably don't want the world to have write privileges. I was able to do that in the properties dialog from within WS FTP_Pro. Don't know what method you are using, but from what I read about that, I'm pretty sure you would want to make at least that change on the permissions.

Hi Don

Thanks for pointing this out. I have now reset my permissions as you suggest.
