I see how this plugin could benefit me greatly – thank you for creating it! However, like Carl (above), I am looking for a way to simplify the initial creation of many existing sermons (both text and audio). So, if there was some way to add them to the database enmasse, it would be greatly appreciated!
This looks like a great plugin. But there is one feature that I would love to see. Currently at my church we set the ID3 tags of the mp3 file to the preacher, title, and text. I believe that it is valuable to include this info in the mp3 file itself. Then when the file is uploaded we use an id3info program to extract this info from the tags and generate the sermons page automatically. But it is just a simple list, without all the great features you have here.
What I would like to do is incorporate the ID3 tag reading into your plugin, so that if a new sermon is uploaded, the first time you edit it any info from the id3 tags is already filled in. That would save you from having to type it twice each week. Plus, we have several years of sermons and this would make it way easier to put them into the database used by your plugin.
I could try to add the code to do this myself and test it, but I was hoping you could give me a tip about where exactly in your plugin code is the right place for me to set the fields based on the ID3 tag info.

OfflineGood idea!
This is quite straightforward to code if you make use of the open-source getid3 PHP parser script (http://getid3.sourceforge.net/). There may be other solutions but this is very easy (basically 3 or 4 lines e.g. the require_once line and the extract lines).
Hope that helps!
Yes, if you could write some code for this it would be useful for others. My thought was to add a link to the unliked files in "Uploads" that took you to the "New Sermon" screen with the preacher and title fields pre-filled. This way you'd probably only need to add one function (to extract the info from the mp3 file), and then add couple of lines to the sb_uploads and sb_new_sermons functions in sermon.php.
If you were feeling particularly adventurous you could perhaps parse the filename for a date (lots of people name their mp3 files by date) as well.
hm…. this sounds sooo good :-)
Any progress? We have 250+ sermons to move over from our old solution to this sermon browser, and this would save us SO much time!
At the moment we have the sermon hosted on a different server (so will use the "enter a url" rather than re-uploading, so a system that can read the id3 tags from mp3 files hosted elsewhere would be SO sweet :-)
Thanks guys,
David.
David,
We are actively working on this feature. cybersheep has sent me some code, and I'm working on debugging and adding options in admin. I will consider adding support for remote files, but I may not do so (because it would mean that the file had to be downloaded from the remote server onto your server in order for the import to take place). I'll do some tests to see whether its feasible, though.
Mark
Can't wait :-D
Having read up on the id3 stuff (getid3 in particular) there does seem to be a problem with the remote reading of id3 info… getid3 does actually need a local copy to pull the info. However it must be possible somehow, as the audio player that the plugin uses can read the id3 info from the file even when it's a remote file…!
Thanks once again for a fantastic plugin.
