I placed sermon browser on my client's website about a year or so ago. Everything seems to be working on the actual site where it is located. However, recently, he submitted the podcast to itunes and this is what he said is happening….

also, when i subscribe to the podcast, it won't automatically download the sermons. they're available to download in itunes, but not when you subscribe. an error message pops up that says "There Are No Playable Episodes for "Relevant Church Podcast". "The URL might point to text-only episodes, or contain file types the iTunes cannot play."

The link to the podcast is: http://www.relevantva.com/loveoutloud/
The link to the podcast feed is : http://www.relevantva.com/love…..mp;podcast

Any help would be SSSOOO appreciated. Thanks and God bless, Mindy

Mindy, it looks like you are running an old version of Sermon Browser. The latest version is 0.43.5. I think if you update to the latest version it will fix your problem.

You can download the latest version here and update manually, or I think you can update through the Wordpress control panel.

Please let us know if this fixes the problem, or if you need more help.

Thanks, Ben. I had a question, though. I made some VERY specific edits to the sermon browser templates. Will this all be erased if I upgrade?

Do you know if I run the feed through feedburner , then give iitunes that url if it will fix the problem?

thanks so much! mindy

I don't know how much "fixing" feedburner does to the feed code, but if you look at the Sermon Browser change log, you'll see that Pastor Barnes put a lot of bug fixes into the podcast logic since version 0.40. When I compared your feed code with my podcast code, I see a number of differences that are probably fixed in the new version. So I recommend updating.

I think when you update, it will keep your templates as you have them now. However, to be safe, if I were you I would go into the Sermon Browser controls and copy each of your templates as they are now into a text file on your computer. Then after you update, you can go back in there and put them back if they get lost.

To be even safer, you could save your current Sermon Browser plugin files and do a WordPress database backup before you update. Then if everything falls apart, you can reinstall your old Sermon Browser version and restore your old WordPress database to get back to where you are now.

I think the update will go well for you, but taking precautions is always a good idea.

I also see a note in the change log of 0.40 that says you might need to resave or reset your options if upgrading from a previous version. I don't know what version you are running right now, but you might want to go through the Sermon Browser control panels and make a note of the settings you've got now so that you can check them again after you update.

If you run into any problems or have any more questions, let us know.

To be safe, you might want to make a copy of your entire SermonBrowser plugin directory as well just to be sure you can roll back if you need to.

Good Morning,

I can see this is a few months old this post, But I'm having the same issue. We have been using Sermon Browser successfully for over a year now. When I recently updated to Version 0.43.5 it stopped the Podcast working. the files still work online on our listen again feature, but I get a message from Itunes:

"there are no playable episodes for 'one church gloucester podcast'. The URL might point to text only episodes or contain files that iTunes cannot play."

A thoughts/help? AS I say It was working up to about may, since then not.

Dave, in the WordPress control panel under Sermons, Options, what do you have for "Public podcast feed"? For your site, it should be:
http://www.onechurchgloucester…..n/?podcast

This will fix your podcast links, but you still have another problem with the feed. If you click on the podcast link above, you'll see there are no sermons showing up in the feed.

Here is something I would try first. Go into Sermons, Options. Make a note of all of your settings, then click "Reset to defaults."

Next, go into Sermons, Templates. Copy each of your three existing templates into a text file somewhere (so you have them saved.) Then click "Reset to defaults."

Then check your podcast feed and see if there are any sermons in there.

If you took good notes of your current settings, you'll be able to go back to them if you need to.

Please let us know if that worked or not.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply. Other than the public podcast link everything else was still at the default settings. I tried what you suggested without success at this point. I'm assuming that I should be able to load the feed in an internet browser and see the full list of sermons available as part of that list?

Dave,
Yes, when you view the feed in your browser, you should be seeing episodes. Here's the feed for our church:
http://www.pathwayschurch.us/p…..t/?podcast

It looks like the podcast isn't your only problem. On your Sermon Browser page, there are 10 sermons shown, but it only says "Sermons (1)" at the top. The number is supposed to be the total number of sermons on your site, but it only says "1". As a result, your filter form doesn't work (since it only thinks there is 1 sermon to pick from) and there is no "Next page" link at the bottom, so your older sermons are not currently accessible.

I don't know what is causing this. It might be that there is something corrupted in your database.

Here's a question for you: In the "Listen Again" WordPress Page, are you using the shortcode , or do you have some qualifiers on it (such as )?

Hi Ben,

I Don't like the sound of corrupted Databases. :(

On our Listen Again page this is what's in there:

"Here you will find all of our sermons. Make a selection to listen again.

"

So again, nothing out of the ordinary there. Just been looking at yours, ours had never looked like that from the start. there has never been a "next page" or total number of sermons available.

It's a bit extreme but is this looking like a delete and reinstall? including the database functions?

Dave
