I got an email from someone saying they could listen, but not download. I checked, and sure enough, when you click "download" it does download a file, but it's only 274 bytes. It looks like an mp3, but there's nothing in it. http://sermons.aisquith.org if anyone knows the solution.

That only appears to be the case on the sermons enterd since the beginning of this year. I went down your list, and they started downloading fine ater I got to the December 2009 ones.

So, the question would have to be… what's different between the ones that do work, and the ones that don't? Since it is most certainly on the date-line, I wonder if the year in the link has something to do with that, but that would be weird.

Did you start a different process for encoding the files or anything?

Rich,
Take that 274 byte file and open it up in a text editor. You'll see a PHP error, which is showing a 403 Forbidden HTTP error. The download link is trying to find your file at:
http://www.aisquith.org/sermon…..242010.mp3
and the webserver is responding with the 403 error.
But if you visit that location in your web browser (click the link above), you'll see that it serves out the .mp3 file just fine.

I'm not sure what the problem is. When you enter a new sermon, do you specify a specific URL for the audio file? When I add a new sermon, I upload the file to the standard Sermon Browser folder (/wp-content/uploads/sermons/) and then pick the file from the list. Perhaps there is a bug in Sermon Browser with the method you are using.

Good catch, Matt. The files from last year went in /sermons/2009/, and the files from this year went in /sermons/2010/. I bet there is a difference in the permissions between the two folders. Are there .htaccess files in those folders?

Thanks everyone! The issue was a single line in .htaccess, placed there by me in an effort to block blank user agents. I removed that and now it works.
