I am using Sermon Browser on my site currently but I am working on a new site as well. What is the feasability of moving all of data and content from the old site to the new? Is this even possible? If so, how would one do this?

Thank you for any help you can give.

I have done it. It's not as simple as copying over your WordPress directory to the new site. Backup the database using phpMyAdmin on your old site. Install Wordpress on your new site, and then use phpMyAdmin to import the database on the new site. Then, preserving the directory structure that you used on the old site. upload all your sermons. Only after this is done do you change the DNS to point to your new server.

PluginBuddy makes a premium plugin called BackupBuddy that is supposed to make it extremely easy to move your entire WordPress website from one server to another. I haven't tried it myself, but the next time I need to move a site I think I'm going to purchase it and try it.

If you do end up buying it, post back here and let us know what you think of it.

So if I put my files in a directory and want to keep them there, all I should have to do is move the db from one site to another? What if I am going from one site to another on the same shared host (Bluehost)? Anything different?

Also, I'm not all that technical…what am I looking for with a DB? Is this part of the WB database or does SB create its own? As detailed as someone could be on this it would be most helpful.

I think I misunderstood your original post. Rereading it, it seems like you've already got a WordPress installation at the new location you want to keep, you just want to move the sermons from one installation to another. Am I understanding correctly?

Yes, correct understanding…and I think I might have gotten it to work provided that all I had to do was copy over all the sb_ files out of my database. There were 9 of them…I see everything but I haven't messed with it much yet…that will come.

So does anyone know, do I need to copy anything more than those sb_ files out of the sql db?

In addition to copying the sb_ database tables, you'll need to do these things:
1. Copy the sermon audio files over to the new location. Keep the directory structure the same, so if your sermons are currently in /wp-content/uploads/sermons/, be sure to put them in the same folder on the new server.

2. Install and Activate the Sermon Browser plugin on the new server.

3. Install and Activate the Audio Player plugin on the new server.

That's all I can think of. Let us know if you run into any trouble.

One other thing I forgot to mention: In addition to the sb_ database tables, Sermon Browser stores some of its options in the main WordPress _options table. You could try copying the Sermon Browser specific options into your new location, or just be aware that you will have to go to the control panel on the new site and enter in all of your options again.

gadeitrich, I realize that you are probably past this point, but I thought I'd mention this in the thread in case someone else in the future reads this.

Thanks Ben, that is helpful. I didn't realize that until after the fact, but have changed my options accordingly. You were spot on for that one! Thanks!
