Hi I have just uploaded this plugin and everything is working great except one thing. In the Filters form I am having trouble with the Keyword field. It is huge! I cannot see anywhere to reduce this or to even remove it if something is wrong – i have tried 3 different browsers and looked through the forum and cannot find anything to help so here i am. Any ideas?

The page is http://www.rcc.co.uk/podcasts/ thanks for your help.

I believe this is a conflict between Sermon Browser and one of your other plugins.

On your sermon page, if you view the source, you'll see the following code:

<style type="text/css">
#title {
width: 960px;
height: 200px;
text-align: left;
}
#title_overlay {
width: 940px;
color: #336699;
font-size: 40px;
line-height: 40px;
position: absolute;
text-align: left;
top: 0px;
padding: 10px;
display: block;
}
#title_overlay span {
display: block;
color: #336699;
font-size: 18px;
line-height: 18px;
}
</style>

I believe this code is inserted into your page by one of your other plugins.

The problem is that Sermon Browser uses the ID "#title" for the keyword entry field. As you can see from the code above, this ID is set to "height: 200px".

In my opinion, "#title" is an unfortunate choice for this keyword entry field. My recommendation would be to change Sermon Browser to use a different ID. This would require a patch to the Sermon Browser plugin.

The easier thing to do would be to figure out which other plugin is inserting this code, then stop using that plugin. :)

Thanks, never having encountered this problem before i'm unsure of something.

If I de-activate a plugin would that be enough to see which one is the problem or do i have to delete it? What if it is, to me an important plugin.

What is this patch you refer to? Again, i am a newbie wordpresser. This is my very first attempt at a website so i am learning on the fly!

Any help would be very gratefully received.

bigdaddywhale,
Yes, if you de-activate a plugin, that will prevent it from operating. You shouldn't need to delete the files. Just de-activate your plugins, one at a time, until the problem goes away.

When you figure out which plugin is the culprit, then you can decide what to do next.

By "patching the plugin," I'm referring to editing the code of the plugin. This would probably be the best solution, but if you are new to Wordpress, it will probably be the hardest. You could ask the developers of one of the plugins to fix the conflict, but developers don't always have the time to fix every conflict with every plugin. I outlined what would need to be done in Sermon Browser in my previous post, but I haven't actually looked at the code myself. Perhaps someone on this forum will take a look at it and post some instructions on how to fix it.

Edit: — Irrelevant suggestion deleted! –
(I had posted a paragraph with a suggestion, but then I realized that it doesn't apply to your issue. If you didn't read it yet, ignore!)

Hey Ben, Thanks for that. I have tried de-activating all the plugins but to no avail! So this leaves me with the option of editing the code or not having the search facility. The latter option isn't really ideal.

Having a quick look for the word #title I find many instances but i don't know if they are all relevant or not. This is where my inexperience comes in and i really need help.

Is there anyone who may be able to help me code this or at lease give a pointer in the right direction?

Would it help to start a new discussion?

bigdaddywhale, since deactivating all of your plugins didn't fix the problem, then perhaps this is a conflict with your theme. This might make it easier to fix. Here's what I'd like you to do:

Find the header.php file of your theme. You should find it in the following folder:
/wp-content/themes/FlexxProfessional

In this file, look for the code that I posted in my first post above. (Search for "#title" and check to see if it is in the section of code that looks like the one I posted.) If you find it, then this might be really easy to fix. If you don't find it, check the other .php files in your theme folder.

Let us know what you find.

Looking at your page again, I think this style is a part of your theme. It looks like your theme is using the "title" id to insert your custom header image onto the page. Since you are using a premium theme, I can't download the theme, so I can't take a look at it to tell you how to change it. But that's okay, because that probably wouldn't be any easier than changing the Sermon Browser plugin code.

No promises, but if I get some time, I'll take a look at the Sermon Browser code and see if I can give you some instructions on eliminating the conflict.

Here's another idea: Have you considered using the "one-click" filtering instead of the "drop-down" style filters? I use the one-click filters on my website, and I prefer it.

We also use the "drop-down" one-click view. I like it much better as well. Stays out of the way, unless you need it.

Hey, Ben— Your site is great! Very nicely done.

Hey all, I have worked out where the 200px comes in. It's from the header, i think! Any way for now i have made the change and we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for all your help. I'm sure i'll be back here sometime soon.laugh
