iPad flash issue

Hello SB folks.

Well, we were in a session tonight where I introduced our site to the main group that is sponsoring it. One of the guys had an iPad and immediately started checking the sermons out. He got an error message complaining about Flash not working, or needing flash to run it or something like that. I can get the specific error message tomorrow.

My son blames Steve Jobs for hating flash! He thinks there might be some ways to work around it, but I thought I should post a request here to see if anyone else has had this issue.

We are also using a plug-in called OnSwipe to optimize the site for iPad.

So… any ideas?

Ok, to answer myself… my son did some checking and we changed our audio player that goes with Sermon Browser.

Instead of using the default flash player we switched to a plug in called: MediaElement.js – you can find it here: http://mediaelementjs.com/

In order for the player to work properly, including a download link, we put this Shortcode into the "MP3 shortcode" setting of the Sermon Browser options:

 [mejsaudio src="%SERMONURL%"]<p><a href="%SERMONURL%">Download audio file</a></p>

Hope that might be a help to someone.

Thanks for the help with setting up MediaElement.js. The player works great in Chrome & Safari but I am having issues with firefox and IE. Are you having the same problems?

Hi jd

Well, I have no problem on our site, but a problem on yours. So there must be another setting that is off. Did you have another audio player plug-in that was working before?

Yes, I was using Audio Player 2.0.4.1 (plugin is currently disabled) and the audio player worked well on all browsers except since it is flash based did not work on many Android or any iOS devices. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

I guess it is safe to assume you didn't change any settings when you added MediaElements. Perhaps it is conflicting with another plug-in? Have you tried deleting Audio Player entirely from your site? (That last is a "Hail Mary" stab in the dark – to mix metaphors!! – ours worked fine with AP disabled.)

There aren't that many settings for SermonBrowser, so I am thinking maybe you have a conflict somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I am still experiencing the same issues. I disabled all plug-in's except sermon browser & MediaElement.js and the player still does not load properly in firefox. I then deleted the audio player plugin, that did not work either. Any other suggestions?

Man! Well, I have run out of ideas. Perhaps try the MediaElement.js guys? I don't see anything in the Sermon Browser options that should be affecting this, unless there is something in the php code… but I assume you haven't customized that?

In any case, I am now at a loss on your problem. Sorry I can't help more.
