I realize this is an old thread, but I'm on version 0.35 (have made several changes to the core files and would rather not update my version) and am still have trouble getting the iTunes podcast to work with Feedburner.  Anyone know if I can add/subtract a few lines of code to get this working?  Here's a link to the website: http://www.tpckearney.org/sermons/

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

The crucial changes to podcast.php (specifically the sb_first_mp3 function) can be seen here: http://plugins.trac.wordpress……odcast.php

If you make the changes to that function there, it should work for you.

Thanks Mark!  I made the suggested changes in my podcast.php file but for some reason when I try and activate the iTunes Smartcast feature in Feedburner I get this:

"The URL does not appear to reference a valid XML file. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 18: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity."

Any ideas?

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear. I was suggesting you made changes to the sb_first_mp3 function only, and that you made the changes related to iTunes only (that is, lines 10-18) of the old file.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.  I only changed the iTunes code as you suggested.  Now I'm getting this:

"The URL does not appear to reference a valid XML file. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 69: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference."

Any more thoughts?  Thanks :)

That was another bug fixed in the later versions. It really would be best if you could upgrade. Are the changes you made just to the template, or have you modified SermonBrowser's files substantially?

Yeah, I know I changed several files (dictionary.php, filetypes.php, frontend.php, css file, and made quite a few changes to the template files)

I know I'm being difficult, but if you could….could you point out what I need to change to get iTunes podcast up and running.

Thanks! :)

Try the following. Copy these from the latest version of podcast.php:

  • Add the ![CDATA[  ... ]] around the description.
  • Add the sb_ampersand_entity function
  • Use the sb_ampersand_entity function when echoing the URLs, and the sermon title.

Just to let you know that if you did upgrade, your template and CSS wouldn't be touched.

If you still get problems, use the Feed Validator to determine the issue, and edit your database to suit. (The problem is currently caused by an & sign in one of your sermon titles.)

Thanks Mark for all your help.  I tried to do what you suggested and kept running into problems, so I decided to upgrade to the lastest version….and now I'm getting this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_register_style() in /home/tpckearney/www/www/wp-content/plugins/sermon-browser/sermon.php on line 97

Any suggestions?

Oh dear, I'm sorry. I've checked, and that function isn't compatible with WP 2.5. If you're able to upgrade WP as well, please do. If you can't, let me know and I'll add back in compatibility for 2.5 (I've always intended to make SB work in 2.5).

Mark, no worries.  I needed to upgrade WP anyways.  I upgraded to the lastest version, tweaked some of the SB source files to reflect my original settings and everything works perfectly now.  iTunes podcast is up and running as well.  Thanks for your assistance! :)
