Is there a way to modify the Sermon Browser Plugin to look for external stylesheets and templates, so that I don't have to edit the stylesheet and sermon page templates with my browser?

Hi,

You can copy the styles from the sermon browser templates page into your existing site stylesheet and edit them there.

Make sure you remove them from the template section and click save changes.
