Bandwidth being exceeded on host, plugin issue?

Hi All,

my website hosting company have been in touch to say that I've exceeded the 200GB bandwidth limit over the last 30 days.

After some initial digging it looks like 98% of the requests are for the sermon audio files and coming from the server that is hosting the site!

The suggestion from the hosting company is that my website or a plugin is misconfigured and generating the large number of requests and traffic volume.

Is there anyway that sermonbrowser could be causing the problem? Any suggestion on how to determine a root cause?

I'm running WP 3.1 and 0.43.5 of sermon browser. I have about 5 other WP plugins installed.

Thanks,
Ralph

I don't have an immediate answer for you, but I have a couple of questions for you.

1. Who is your hosting company?
2. When you click on Sermons in the WordPress control panel and see the list of your sermons, what are the Stats for your last 6 sermons?
3. Would you mind posting a link to your site?

Just to clarify the sermon browser plugin stats are in the 100's (total over several months) while the raw log stats indicate over a 1300 hits per sermon each month.

The fact that you are linking to URLs on your own site (rather than to the file itself) will double your bandwidth when you download files. It will make every download request look as though it comes from the server itself.

Hi Mark,

thanks for the help. Do you have any suggestions as to what I've mis-configured to end up in this state?

I've specified absolute URLs for each sermon. The reason was that I could never get the "choose existing file" option to work.

The current upload folder is set to something like:

//usr/local/yyyy/vhosts/xxx/webspace/zzzapps/xxx/htdocs/audio/ (I've purposely garbled some of the directory names)

Thanks,
Ralph

Try changing the folder to just /audio/
